Improving retail space at Sprucefield Shopping Centre

Unit C1 at Sprucefield Shopping Centre has been vacant since 2020 when Mothercare vacated the unit. Marks & Spencer as the owner of Unit C1 is preparing a planning application to bring the unit back into active use, to attract new retailers and support the ongoing vitality of the shopping centre.

The unit is currently restricted to allow clothing and footwear in part of the unit only. The proposals seek to relax the current restriction to allow all Class A1 comparison goods (non-food), and to subdivide the unit into two, reflecting modern retail requirements for smaller, flexible floorspaces.

By attracting new occupiers to Sprucefield, the development will reinforce Sprucefield’s position as a leading Northern Ireland’s only out of town regional shopping destination by enhancing the attractiveness and diversity of the retail offer and increasing footfall.

Before finalising and submitting this planning application to Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, the project team invited the community to comment on the plans, which concluded on Friday 10th July.

On this website you can find more detail about the planning context and more detail about the proposals.
